Aatu Räty

Born: 2002-11-14

Team: Kärpät

Position: Center

Shoots: Left

Height / Weight: 6-0 / 170

REPORT: U18 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, APRIL 18-21, 2019

Räty has been centering the third line for Team Finland at the U18 World Championships. He displayed some good flashes of skill in the opening game against Canada, but I thought he was even more noticeable in a 4-2 loss to Czech Republic. He was around the puck more in that game. He clearly has good chemistry with his older brother Aku, a winger who plays a more straight-forward game. Aatu is an excellent stickhandler with the poise to control the game when he has the puck. He also has quality passing skills and impressive offensive instincts. He’s also rather strong for his age and he wants to make a difference on the ice. An agile skater with a good glide which will help him add quickness in the coming years. Has been quite strong at face-offs. With his skill set and competitiveness, Räty can be considered a top prospect for the 2021 NHL Draft.

REPORT: FINLAND – GERMANY U16, OCTOBER 21-22, 2017

Räty had two really strong games for the U16 national team against Germany in Vierumäki. He is an offensively gifted center who excels at setting up scoring chances for his linemates. He had good offensive rhythm and his passing and vision were excellent – knows where his teammates are in order to feed them the puck. He’s a good pass receiver himself, being able to get the puck under control quickly and smoothly. Räty showed good edge work and acceleration, as well as solid agility. He also used his stick well defensively and worked hard off the puck. There were a lot of things to like about the late 2002 born center.
