REPORT: KIEKKO-ESPOO @ HIFK U20, AUGUST 5, 2021

Kivioja had a good performance on Kiekko-Espoo’s first line, playing alongside Verner Miettinen and Lari Posti. Much like last season, he played wing in this game instead of center. He moved surprisingly well for his size, had good balance and a compact stride. He could protect the puck well down low in the offensive zone, using his large frame to his advantage. He had no fear of playing the physical game and making body contact. He definitely has the size to be an effective forechecker who can disrupt opponents and create havoc in the offensive zone. Early in the the first period, he did not hesitate to block a shot and put his body on the line for his team. Although he did not display a ton of offensive skill, he played a pretty simple, direct game and executed it well.

REPORT: KIEKKO-VANTAA @ BLUES U18, AUGUST 30, 2019

Kivioja had a strong game in a 5-3 loss to Kiekko-Vantaa. He was relied upon to play in all situations for Blues U18 and he made an impact both offensively and defensively. Kivioja is a strong-skating and smart right-shot center who checks in at 6’3″ and 183 lbs. He showcased impressive fluidity in his stride, as well as good acceleration and pretty quick feet. Unlike many other bigger young players, Kivioja’s 6’3″ frame does not hinder his quickness or mobility. He generated quite a few shot attempts and displayed a precise, quick wrist shot and snap shot. He made smart passes in the offensive zone, including an excellent pass to a wide open teammate from below the goal line. He won face-offs at a high rate. Kivioja is not a flashy player nor overly creative offensively and has room for improvement in these aspects of the game. However, he is highly efficient with the puck and reads the game well without it. Keep an eye on the 2003 born center who has shown next-level potential in the early stages of the season.
