Matinmikko is a mobile right-shot defenseman who impressed with his skating on Ässät U20 second pairing against HIFK. He possesses excellent acceleration, especially from a dead stop, and he moves well laterally and backwards. His top-end speed was right there with anyone in this game. He defended effectively against the oncoming forwards and used his stick well to disrupt the puck carrier. Matinmikko jumped into attack in a timely manner a couple of times to create another option for his team. He read the game quite well and used his speed to his advantage. He also unleashed a few good wristers through bodies on net. His puck skills aren’t high end, but when he keeps the game simple enough, he is most effective.
