Lehtinen got on the scoresheet with two assists in a 3-1 win over HIFK. The HPK U18 defenseman displayed a great deal of versatility and smarts. He came very close to scoring in the first period after unleashing a quick shot from the point. He moved the puck up the ice with crisp and accurate passes – overall, his passing and puck handling skills were definitely better than average. Lehtinen got around the ice well, his acceleration and mobility looked improved from earlier viewings this season. He’s not particularly big at 5-11 and 172 pounds, yet highly competitive and not easy to beat in the defensive zone.
REPORT: HPK @ HIFK U20, AUGUST 16, 2018
Lehtinen’s defensive play stood out significantly, especially during the first two periods. He read the developing play well and defended really well with his stick in his own end, taking away and time space from HIFK forwards. His slot coverage was strong. The smart blueliner also made some plays with the puck. Lehtinen took his chances offensively, carrying the puck up the ice and feeding the puck to the wing for two good zone entries. He has decent puck handling skills and he played a quite simple game, not trying to do too much. Lehtinen possesses pretty good mobility; however, his first few strides could be a tad quicker and more explosive. Overall, there were many good elements in his game.
