Daniel Mäkiaho

Team: HPK

Position: Left Wing

Shoots: Left

Mäkiaho was one of the best Blues U20 players in a 6-2 preseason loss to Jokerit. He had several strong shifts in the offensive zone where his line was able to have long periods of possession. Mäkiaho understood the game on both sides of the puck. Not only was he involved in many quality offensive opportunities, but he also made several strong defensive plays with his stick. Mäkiaho gave good passes and never got too complicated with the puck. He has good hands and he was very strong on the puck, using his reach as leverage to keep opponents at bay. He had a great scoring chance on a nice, quick passing play but couldn’t bury it from close range. Although his first few steps could be more explosive, he is a good skater with decent top-end speed and strong balance. Overall, he was defensively reliable and created a lot of offense.
