REPORT: MAGNITOGORSK @ JOKERIT (KHL), SEPTEMBER 19, 2018
This was my first viewing of Räsänen in the KHL season after seeing him at the U20 tournament in July. The massive defenseman had 15 shifts and 11:01 of ice-time as Jokerit took their fifth home win against Metallurg Magnitogorsk. He played a quite simple, yet efficient game with the puck without much flash and dash. He did show good offensive vision and made an accurate first pass. He also managed quite well along the boards. Räsänen is a powerful skater with a long stride, however, he lacks in agility and fluidity. His skating isn’t bad by any means, but he must continue to work on his mobility to maximize his potential. The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect scored his first KHL goal in a 8-0 win over Traktor Chelyabinsk and has seen his ice-time increase in the last few games.
