REPORT: TAPPARA VS HIFK U20, SEPTEMBER 14, 2018
Räsänen logged over 25 minutes of ice-time and played in all situations for his team in a 4-3 win over HIFK. He made a strong impact in all three zones. Räsänen’s offensive game looked much improved from the past season, he carried the puck up the ice on several occasions and also joined the rush at the right times. Confidence with the puck was noticeable throughout the game. Räsänen was quick in a straight-line with a good first step acceleration, but he still seemed to lack in agility and pivoting. In the defensive zone, he was smart and assertive. He was aggressive and physical when he needed to be and was quick to apply pressure, without getting out of position.
REPORT: FINLAND VS RUSSIA, U17 FIVE NATIONS, FEBRUARY 15, 2018
Räsänen played in important situations and showed strong defensive acumen against Russia at the U17 Five Nations tournament. His quick stick allowed to poke pucks away from the oncoming forwards effectively and he was willing to play a physical game when necessary. The sturdy blueliner unleashed a few quick, yet slightly inaccurate wristers from the point. Räsänen played with good poise and confidence in the defensive zone. However, there were a few occasions where he could have managed better to move the puck away from pressure. His balance and straight-line speed both are solid; however, he will need to work on his agility, pivots and footwork. At the next level, Räsänen has the potential to become a strong shutdown defenseman who can also chip in offensively from time to time.
