Nurmi showed his speed, offensive skills and got on the scoresheet with three points. On his goal he worked a give-and-go in the neutral zone, got in on a partial breakaway and finished with a precise wrist shot on goalie’s glove side. He seldom misses this kind of opportunities because he’s such a clinical finisher – defensemen often have a tough time maintaining a good gap control against him. He builds speed with quick crossovers and can separate in the open ice. On the power play he made smart passes, displaying vision and puck poise. His decision making and play reading abilities are high end and he knows where his best option is. On one occasion, he was lightning quick to a loose puck around the net, recognizing that the Ilves goalie did not have the puck under control, and his teammate scored on the play.

Nurmi was noticeable in almost every shift in the first period. He is a very good skater with speed, balance and strong acceleration, he could fly past a K-Espoo defenseman and get a wrister on net from the slot. He set up KooKoo’s first goal showing his speed and vision on a quick pass off the rush. He made a great diagonal pass in the neutral zone as well – a superb passer. He was alert in his own end and showed awareness of his surroundings in all three zones. He played smart and constantly knew where the play was headed. Despite his young age, there aren’t many holes in his game right now and he is already one of the top players on this KooKoo U18 team.
