REPORT: JYP @ KÄRPÄT U20, MARCH 13, 2021
Kemell played on JYP’s second line alongside Jesse Helander and Jere Lassila. Kärpät took a convincing 6-1 win, but the winger had a solid game. He displayed a very good selection of shots, including a heavy slap shot and a quick one-timer on the power play. He generated multiple zone entries but could have done a better job of protecting the puck at times. He played with passion and showed plenty of drive. He was physical, he could take a hit to make a play and his board play was strong. He delivered a big hit on a much bigger opponent in the third period. He worked in his own end and played responsibly away from the puck, It is rare to see a player of his age with this level of puck skills, physical presence and skating ability.
REPORT: SWEDEN @ FINLAND U16, DECEMBER 13, 2019
Kemell had a strong game as the Finnish U16 national team beat Sweden 4-1. He created a quality scoring chance in the first period as he split two defensemen before unleashing a quick shot from close range. Early on in the second period, he got in on breakaway and drew a penalty shot, which he couldn’t convert into a goal, though. He did score 3-0 goal with a nice redirection. He was an offensive force and displayed high-end puck skills. He executed an effective passing game and delivered quick and accurate one-touch passes. His stickhandling was very good, he could dangle opponents and keep the puck on a string. He could hold on to the puck near the wall and it was difficult to take it away from him. He is a very good skater with speed, balance and mobility. He has a strong base and he’s difficult to knock off the puck. His endurance was good and he played an energetic game at all times. Kemell has a high ceiling and is one to watch for the 2022 NHL Draft.
REPORT: JYP @ JOKERIT U16, FEBRUARY 16, 2019
The underage forward was very noticeable in the first period, but faded a little bit as the game went on. Kemell showcased speed, fast stickhandling and deception on multiple occasions which made him tough to contain in the offensive zone. He played with pace and made his presence felt: he hunted down pucks and his checking game was effective. An intriguing 2004 born winger who has many tough-to-play-against elements and can beat opponents in a multitude of ways. Finished the game with a goal and an assist.
