REPORT: SAN DIEGO @ COLORADO (AHL), MAY 15, 2021
Annunen stopped 30 of 33 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the San Diego Gulls. He had a solid game between the pipes for the Colorado Eagles. After facing only four shots in the first period, there started to be more action in the Eagles’ defensive zone and Annunen made two desperation, extension pad saves later in the game. He made a nice save on high-danger shot from the slot as he did a nice job of staying square to the puck. There were also two sequences when he came up with big saves on second chance opportunities. The first goal he allowed was a good, hard point shot and there was some traffic and a moving screen in front of him. The second San Diego goal came on a penalty shot and the overtime winner was a backdoor tap-in goal. I think Annunen could have been more sharp on the first goal, but the latter two were definitely not his fault. This was a fairly good second AHL game for Annunen. He will need some time to adjust to the North American rink and different shot angles, but after playing more games he’s probably going to be more confident and comfortable with his surroundings and play.
REPORT: HERMES @ K-VANTAA (MESTIS), JANUARY 4, 2019
Annunen had a busy night in net for Hermes, making 41 saves in a 4-3 win over Kiekko-Vantaa. 17 of the saves came in the third period. The 6-4 netminder looked calm and relaxed throughout the game. In the second period, he made a breakaway save in which he showed great patience. He did a good job of cutting down angles and overall his positioning was very good. Moreover, Annunen had a quick glove. On the downside, he did give up some rebounds, especially on low shots. He was more efficient at eliminating rebounds on high shots, trapping pucks into his body. He didn’t handle the puck a whole lot but he did stop the puck behind the net a couple of times.
