REPORT: AVANGARD @ JOKERIT (KHL), SEPTEMBER 3, 2019
Hirvonen became the first player born in the 21st century to play for Jokerit in the KHL. It was very encouraging performance from the 18-year-old forward. He had a total of 12 shifts, playing on the fourth line and being trusted to kill penalties. Hirvonen made a nice zone entry with a shifty move in the first period. There were a couple of other flashes of skill, too. He was very smart with the puck and rather gave it back to the defensemen than tried to force plays offensively. He was solid on the penalty kill, reading the game well. Another positive is that he did a good job of making himself available for passes. Hirvonen is a strong skater with quick feet and could more than keep up with the pace of the game.
REPORT: JOKERIT @ HIFK U20, AUGUST 29, 2018
The strong skating winger played on HIFK’s second line with Anton Lundell and Teemu Engberg. The trio was excellent in possession and they were extremely difficult to contain because of their quick and clever puck movement. Hirvonen had one assist in the game and made several really good puck distributions. The offensive part of his game is getting better after each viewing. Once again Hirvonen’s work ethic and quickness were impressive, he has the speed to catch opposition players and thanks to his work ethic, he was efficient on the backcheck. His quickness creates a lot of trouble for the defenders and he has the hands to keep up with his speed. He might not be big, yet he’s surprisingly effective along the boards.
REPORT: BLUES @ HIFK U18, APRIL 1, 2018
Hirvonen played an impressive two-way game and scored two goals, leading HIFK U18 to a 5-1 win over Blues. His first goal was a particularly nice one. He found a soft spot in the offensive zone, received a cross-ice pass in a dangerous scoring position and finished off the play. He’s a very good skater who is always moving and buzzing all over the ice. He’s quick to pucks and a tireless worker in all three zones. He has a quick wrist shot and showed a nose for the net. His offensive skill set is fairly good, but I was more impressed by his versatility and solid play away from the puck, especially on the penalty kill.
REPORT: JOKERIT @ HIFK U20, SEPTEMBER 6, 2017
Hirvonen registered two assists for HIFK U20 in a 5-2 loss to Jokerit. He is a small winger with very good first-step quickness. Possesses good agility, footwork and backwards skating ability. His speed makes him pretty elusive with the puck. Hirvonen recorded five shot attempts and had clearly improved his ability to create offense, both for himself and others. Showed a bit of playmaking side to his game. His play without the puck (anticipation, reliability) and physical game still require improvement. The former U16 league offensive dynamo is having a promising start with five points in four games.
