REPORT: LUKKO @ K-KISSAT U18, DECEMBER 16, 2018
Grönlund played a stable game at both ends of the rink for Lukko U18 and got ice-time in key situations, particularly on the penalty kill. He’s not the type of a defenseman who will catch your eye with flashy plays, however, the 6-1 blueliner plays a well-rounded game and doesn’t make many mistakes either. He did a good job of getting shots on net from the point and he was efficient with the puck. Moreover, he made an important block on the penalty kill late in the first period. He skates well backwards and has good overall mobility. Overall, Grönlund has progressed nicely from last season.
NOTES FROM THE 2017-2018 SEASON:
Grönlund logged solid minutes for Karhu-Kissat U18 in the 2017-18 season. More of a defensive defenseman who shows promise with his reliable and stable play. Solid in one-on-one situations, displays good gap control, gets his stick on the puck and can force opponents to the perimeter. Grönlund has good footwork and mobility; however, he could improve his top speed. Has good strength and is willing to play physically in the defensive end, pins opponents into the boards. Moves the puck with effective and simple passes, but at present doesn’t show a whole lot of flash and dash. Has some untapped offensive potential, however.
