Huuhtanen put together a respectable season for Kiekko-Espoo U20, amassing 18 goals and 34 points in 48 games. He’s an offensive-minded winger with a heavy shot and solid physical game. He has good hands and can maneuver with the puck into prime scoring positions. He’s not afraid to play rough and finishes his checks with regularity. Like many younger players in the U20 league, at times Huuhtanen seemed to struggle with consistency in my viewings. Furhermore, he has a hunched over skating style and his stride lacks power, but his skating and mobility are steadily starting to come along. All in all, he is a solid offensive player who has potential to improve his overall game. Huuhtanen recently signed a contract with Tappara. March 27, 2020
REPORT: RUSSIA @ FINLAND U17, AUGUST 10, 2019
Huuhtanen was consistently dangerous with the puck and recorded two assists in a 3-2 overtime win. He showed the ability to maneuver in tight spaces and his quick hands enabled him to keep the puck under control when being pressured. He stickhandled into the middle and generated offense from good scoring areas. He delivered smart, simple enough passes and processed the game fairly quickly. Huuhtanen played a physical brand of hockey – he was sturdy and had good balance on his skates. While he does have finesse, he has also shown the willingness to engage in the physical play. His skating was improved from the past season. He still needs to work on his agility, speed, stops and starts, though. Huuhtanen has a chance to be one of the key players for the U17 national team during the 2019-20 season.
