Salin registered a primary assist on HIFK’s first goal in this Liiga preseason game. In this situation he made a crisp pass from the left face-off circle to the low slot for Olli Palola. Salin read the game well offensively and did not hesitate to join the rush. He played 18:13, fourth most among HIFK defensemen, and recorded four shot attempts. His blueline work was solid and he managed to get shots on net from the point. He is an offensive-minded defenseman and there was seldom a panic point in his game, as he stayed calm under pressure and made good, accurate passes on the breakout. He will need to continue to work on his defensive reliability, but he is a very skilled player and has natural offensive instincts. If Salin continues to play this way during the preseason, I believe he will get chances to play more games with the Liiga team later this year.

Salin brought a strong offensive game to the table and logged quality minutes for HIFK U20 on the first defensive pairing. He was able to create offense by carrying the puck into the offensive zone multiple times. He was smooth and skilled with the puck and up the ice often. He showed strong edge work, as well as a powerful first step. Right-shot defensemen with this kind of puck skills and skating don’t grow in trees. He had several shot attempts in this game; too many of them missed the net. Salin has some work to do on his defensive zone coverage, but as he gains experience in the U20 league, I think his defensive reliability and reads away from the puck will improve. He is already quite physical, he plays with an edge and finishes his checks.
