MESTIS PROSPECT UPDATE (NOVEMBER 25, 2019)

With a 5-4-9 stat line in 11 games, the 2020 draft eligible winger is off to a nice start in his first Mestis season. There is a lot to like about Järventie’s skating and offensive skill set. He’s a smooth skater with a long, powerful stride and good top-end speed, with the ability to separate from defenders. He has a heavy wrist shot with a quick release and can get it on net from a distance. He has quick hands, he controls the puck well along the wall and can make plays in tight spaces under pressure. This is my fourth season scouting Järventie and he has most often been the go-to guy offensively in the juniors. His defensive reliability and intensity require improvement, but he’s still adjusting to the league, so I’m expecting him to elevate his play away from the puck as the year progresses. Overall, Järventie is a very skilled NHL prospect with a high ceiling. If he falls to the late rounds of the draft, I think some team may have gotten themselves a steal.

REPORT: TUTO @ KOOVEE (MESTIS), OCTOBER 9, 2019

Järventie played his first game in Finland’s second-highest league today. The 2002 born winger logged 12:04 of ice-time and recorded two shot attempts. There were a few glimpses where he showed his offensive abilities, mainly in the third period when he had more puck touches. In the second period, he was headed for a breakaway but lost his stick in the process as the opposing defenseman took a slashing penalty. Järventie used long, fluid strides to generate strong straightaway speed. He kept his game quite simple most of the time, eliminating turnovers and playing a reliable game with the puck. He read the game well in his own end and anticipated plays on a couple of occasions. There is no doubt Järventie has skill and if he can continue to ramp up his intensity and work on the little things while adjusting to the league, his draft stock will improve quite a bit.

REPORT: ILVES @ HIFK U20, NOVEMBER 16, 2018

Järventie was among the most noticeable players in the game. He opened the scoring early in the first period after getting quickly to his own rebound and scoring from a sharp angle. Järventie assisted the second Ilves goal on the power play, finding a seam and feeding the puck with a pinpoint pass into the middle of the ice. Järventie recorded six shots on goal and created good offensive opportunities for his team. An offensive-minded winger who can really skate, he carried the puck into the zone effectively on a couple of occasions. He’s got great speed and he’s a highly agile and fluid skater. He has swift hands which helped him to stickhandle in tight spaces. Vision and puck poise were notable on the power play. Wrist shot has a fairly quick release on it. The 6-1 forward has added some versatility to his game and while he could be more involved defensively, his overall game is improving. An interesting prospect who will be eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft.
