This was Ranta’s second game in the AHL after turning pro and signing an entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche. He scored his first professional goal which would end up being the game winner in a 4-1 Eagles win. He was able to sneak behind a defender and put the rebound home. In the third period, he had an opportunity to score his second goal of the game, but his one-timer from the slot was denied by Texas goalie Colton Point. Ranta is a very strong skater with a powerful stride and quick acceleration. He is strong on his skates, has good balance and can play through contact. He showed good read-and-react abilities. For instance, he was quick to cover the point on a pinching defenseman multiple times. He has a quick stick that he used to disrupt opponents and win pucks. He kept the game simple and got pucks in and out of the zone. He did not play on special teams, but he made most of his ice-time at 5-on-5.
