Vilén played on Finland’s first defensive pairing alongside Viljami Juusola and both of them managed well at even strength and on the power play. Vilén played an efficient and smart game at both ends of the ice. He played with some snarl in the defensive zone and used his size to his advantage along the boards and in the corners. He had a strong physical presence. His skating looked improved from last season which was encouraging. He skated away from pressure a couple of times and moved the puck well to start the attack from his own end. There wasn’t anything flashy about his game, but the Pelicans U20 blueliner was very solid.
