REPORT: FINLAND @ BELARUS U18, APRIL 19, 2019

Belarus upset Finland with a 4-3 win in the second day of the U18 World Championship. Overall, the game was a lackluster performance from the Finnish team, but Tieksola was excellent in the third period. He scored Finland’s first goal with a precise wrist shot from Leevi Aaltonen’s pass. Tieksola has plenty of finesse and the poise to wait for plays to develop before feeding the puck to his teammates in the offensive zone. A skilled skater whose glide and quickness are reminiscent of another Kärpät U20 product Sebastian Aho. Not a defensive specialist, but he’s dynamic once he has the puck on his stick and doesn’t lack confidence either.

REPORT: KÄRPÄT @ HIFK U20, SEPTEMBER 30, 2018

The draft eligible winger had a fine game on Kärpät U20 first line in a 4-1 loss to HIFK. Tieksola created a good scoring chance in the first period, lifting an opponent’s stick and getting a quick shot off in close. Late in the third period, he hit the crossbar with a quick wrister from the right face-off circle. He has impressive stickhandling skills and showed very good vision, feeding pucks from the perimeter in the offensive zone. His effort off the puck was good and he sacrificed the body to block a shot in the first period. He’s not a true speedster, but rather an elusive skater with strong edge work and the ability to make quick turns. At the moment the biggest shortcoming in Tieksola’s game is that he’s lightweight and not particularly effective along the boards and in puck battles. However, I firmly believe he could end up being one of the best Finnish forwards from his age group in the long run.
